What Is a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC)?
A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC), also known as a National Police Check, is a search of criminal history information sourced through the National Police Checking Service database. The service is coordinated nationally and draws information from police agencies throughout Australia.
The certificate may reveal criminal history information sourced through Australian police agencies. Where information is legally eligible for release, it may be reported as Disclosable Court Outcomes (DCOs). DCOs are court outcomes, convictions, pending matters, and other criminal history information that can be disclosed under National Police checking Service rules and applicable legislation.
Depending on the result, a police check may include:
• Disclosable Court Outcomes (DCOs)
• Pending criminal charges
• Court appearances
• Certain court-heard traffic offences
• Other criminal history information permitted for release
Results are generally recorded as either:
• No Disclosable Court Outcomes (NDCOs), indicating that no releasable criminal history information was identified; or
• Disclosable Court Outcomes (DCOs), indicating that criminal history information has been assessed as eligible for release.
Importantly, not all criminal history information is released. Police checks are subject to spent convictions legislation and applicable Commonwealth, state, and territory laws. Certain spent convictions may not appear on a certificate, depending on legal requirements and the purpose of the check. Each state has its own laws regarding what is considered a spent conviction depending on which state the offence occurred.
As an ACIC accredited police check provider, CrimCheck follows strict identity verification, privacy, and compliance standards to ensure every check is conducted securely and in accordance with accreditation requirements.
